Further to recent increases on butter, we are now in a situation where not only has the butter increased even further but the impact has filtered through into all dairy products. In quarter one alone it looks as though milk production will end up as much as 100 million litres below last year, and spot milk prices are still trading well above contracted prices, most unusual for this time of the year. The latest figures also indicate that UK cheese production has fallen dramatically and we believe this could mean there being as much as 50,000 tonnes below 2012. That’s one huge amount of cheese!!
